Club Member Receives Grant for 2nd Annual Sunshine Classic 3v3 Basketball Tournament

Grant monies will help cover expenses being used toward trophies, t-shirts and basketballs players will sign and deliver to the kids at Mary Cariola Children’s Center.

(From the grant application submitted by club member Aiden.)  My friends and I love basketball. To help enjoy it more, my dad and his friend built a basketball court in our backyard for our club members and my friends to use. Our Kids Miracle Making Club does projects and events to help kids with special needs. One of the organizations we help is Mary Cariola Children’s Center. They have an annual walk in September to raise funds called Walking on Sunshine. When my dad asked me what we could do for the walk this year I said how about a 3v3 basketball tournament to raise money to help the kids. I set a goal of $250 and with the help of my basketball coach organized a tournament for girls and boys. The entry fee was $10. We had 39 players in 3 divisions with trophies awarded to the division winners. The tournament raised $597.88! A check was presented to Mary Cariola at their walk!. I’ve decided to make this an annual tournament and have set a goal of $800 for the 2nd Annual in 2017. In addition to donating cash to help provide services, I like to donate equipment so our friends with special needs can do the things we do like play basketball. Then we can have a special tournament with them too. Helping our friends with special needs not only makes their lives better but it helps us appreciate all we have and makes us realize that the challenges we face are nothing compared to the challenges they face everyday. Donating the money we raise really helps but the best part is seeing how our donation makes a difference by helping the kids have fun like we do like playing basketball.
